Verdict Doctor Who Special
A real treat for any fan of time lords, even if it did clash with a televisual must-see, Paul Jones pulled out all the stops to theme his regular monthly comedy night around the TARDIS thief. Truly this was a delightful act of love, as demonstrated with his ‘found footage’ of Davros’ childhood involving both of his children, and the stunning cake he made. Guests were a mix of the sublime and the curious, with ‘Hebburn’ writer and Who-fan and writer Graham Duff’s first ever set a true peak and humorous insight into his creative process, along with a delightful return to stand-up from Who- and Torchwood-writer Toby Whithouse another highlight. Andrew O’Neill headlined proceedings, quickly proving himself to be one of the biggest fans in the room and and regaled the audience with not one but two stories of meeting Doctor Whos (Tom Baker and Peter Davison), selected from the five he proudly boasted to have encountered. A highly enjoyable alcove of fandom and fun, worth all the stars in the universe to any true Doctor Who aficionado.
