Celeb City: Peter Blake, Mark Little, Trevor Sorbie & Ricky Gervais

I took a trip to Wales last week as the guest of the lovely Laurence Alkin from Art Republic to attend the private view of Sir Peter Blake’s collection of illustrations Llareggub: Peter Blake Illustrates Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood. This amazing body of work, being shown at the National Museum Cardiff, is the culmination of a 25-year project by the godfather of Pop Art and includes portraits of each of the characters, watercolours of the dream sequences and collages and paintings of scenes and locations from Thomas’s fictional village of Llareggub. The show is absolutely breathtaking and well worth a trip up the M4. Open until 16 March 2014 – see more at www.museumwales.ac.uk

Royal Christmas
Added to our Christmas present wish list this week is anything from the new Royal Doulton Street Art collection featuring the work of artists Nick Walker and Pure Evil. This plate is my particular fave. Please Santa… we’ve been ever so good this year! You can shop the whole collection at www.royaldoulton.co.uk

Trevor’s Winter wonderland
The 2013 festive party season is now in full swing and the award-winning team at the Trevor Sorbie Brighton salon hosted a glitzy winter party for their clients and friends in aid of the Rockinghorse children’s charity. Pictured here with the legend that is Trevor Sorbie MBE, are three beautiful models showcasing looks from the Style Bar (I like the braid best!). It really was a beautiful night with a beautiful purpose – as all proceeds from the raffle of three hampers stuffed to the brim with beauty goodies will be donated to Rockinghorse. The charity are having a pre-Christmas campaign to raise funds to buy a portable sensory play tower for the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital. The tower will allow children and babies in hospital this Christmas and too poorly to leave their rooms the opportunity to play. You can find out more information on the campaign at www.rockinghorse.org.uk

Ricky Gervais congratulates PUPAID
Celebrity TV vet (and former Latest Homes columnist) Marc Abraham received the praise of comedy king Ricky Gervais last week after securing 100,000 signatures on an e-petition against puppy farming. The petition, started by Brighton-based TV vet Marc Abraham in May, has smashed its 100,000 target meaning a parliamentary debate will discuss puppy farming in the new year. The puppy farming awareness campaign ‘PupAid’ is calling on the government to ‘Ban the sale of young puppies & kittens without their mothers being present’ and is now the biggest pet welfare petition of all time.

Mark Little on Pointless
Well-loved comedian and Martlets Hospice Patron, Mark Little, teamed up with fellow comedian Ted Robbins to take on six other celebrities, including, Alistair McGowan and Katy Hill on BBC1’s Celebrity Pointless Show on Saturday 30th November. Talking about his appearance on the show, Mark said: “Never has a TV show been so aptly named as ‘Celebrity Pointless’ unless of course there’s a chance of winning some money for Brighton and Hove’s most caring and sharing hospice the Martlets, of which I am patron. Pointless? We’ll see? I’ll give it a bash for a great Sussex institution.”
