Film: Frozen 3D (PG)

The new 3D fairytale from Disney is the perfect Christmas family film

Years of sequels and sub-par animal adventures had somewhat dented Disney’s reputation, particularly compared to Pixar’s intelligent and emotive CGI classics. Thankfully they have had something of a renaissance over the last few years with high quality films like The Princess And The Frog and Tangled showing the world that they’ve still got it.

Frozen has all the hallmarks of a great Christmassy film, and introduces a new Disney princess in Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell). There’s also the vocal talent of the funny, idiosyncratic Alan Tudyk (of Firefly and A Knight’s Tale fame) and the hearty authority of Ciarán Hinds (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and There Will Be Blood).

Loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Snow Queen, Anna embarks on an epic journey to find her sister Elsa (Idina Menzel) whose powers have doomed the kingdom of Arendelle to perpetual winter. Anna fights through bad weather, encounters trolls, reindeer, and a hilarious snowman called Olaf in her quest to save the kingdom.

There’s more to Frozen than just a fun adventure for children however, with gorgeous designs influenced by the Fjords of Norway that will look beautiful in 3D. You simply can’t beat Disney for impressive animation, memorable characters and classic stories, so this wintry wonder should be perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
