In 2013 Mister Smith Interiors celebrated their 50th Anniversary – with two beautiful showrooms and a team of dedicated staff and suppliers we recap on the history that has helped this inspirational family run business stay in touch and in tune with the ever changing and often challenging retail interiors industry.
In 1963 a tall, dark and handsome young man called Freddie Smith opened his first carpet shop in Tunbridge Wells; warm and well fitted carpets were a rare bird and the shop was a roaring success.

In 1971 his son Patrick joined the family firm and expanded to a larger shop and showroom on Tunbridge Wells famous High Street.

In 1980 with Patrick now at the helm, Mister Smith Interiors expanded further and made the permanent move to a beautiful Victorian Crowborough showroom – here they expanded their product range to sofas and chairs, fabrics and accessories.

During the 1990s, Patrick’s young sons Ben and Anthony became part of the family business, taking Mister Smith Interiors into its third generation of expert, family-run interior design.

In 2003 Ben, now the Managing Director, opened a second Mister Smith Interiors on New Road in Brighton. For the next 10 years they measured up and fitted carpets and runners in happy homes across the South East. Ben’s expert carpet fitters are so good they have yet to encounter stairs they cannot fit.

But Mister Smith Interiors offers everything from decadent wallpaper and fabric to statement pendant chandeliers and table lamps – they also offer a full interior design service. No job is too large or small for the team to handle.

In 2013 Ben’s wife Saskia joined the business as Creative Director, together they hope to move the business forward and ensure there are 50 more successful years of Mister Smith Interiors.
