Brum note for BIMM founder who runs Brighton singing school

The Brighton singing school run by Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) founder Damian Keyes is setting up shop in Birmingham.

Mr Keyes started Vocademy five years ago after leaving BIMM and teaches ten-week singing courses in Brighton, Hove, Haywards Heath, Horsham and Worthing.

The 37-year-old father of one is preparing to start up a Birmingham branch next year which will also teach children from 6 to 18 years old.

The courses are tailored for each age group and use the sort of songs featured on the X-Factor and in the iTunes charts.

The aim is to help children gain confidence and become pitch perfect while also picking up technical and performance tips from experts.

Mr Keyes said: “The kids love it and we see such a transformation in them at the end of the ten weeks.

“I started Vocademy because, to me, there was nowhere that let kids go and learn to sing to contemporary cool music that they’d enjoy and relate to.

“It’s really taken off and we’ve got schools all over the South East now. The feedback from parents is brilliant. A lot of the kids stay with us term after term.”

All the teachers are qualified and have undergone the appropriate checks. The courses cost £120 a term or £12 a week.
