The Grand joins Brighton hotels for Ronald McDonald House charity

The Grand Brighton is one of the city’s hotels delighted to donate a number of overnight stays to the Ronald McDonald House Brighton, located opposite the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital.

The Ronald McDonald House provides free accommodation to families that have children being treated at the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, a specialist department for the care of premature and sick new born babies, at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

The charity’s work keeps families together so children in hospital can get the love and comfort they need, and ensures that this difficult time for the whole family is made as easy as possible.

It helps to alleviate the stresses of travelling long distances and the cost of lengthy hotel stays during a child’s treatment and recovery period.

The House, which opened in March 2000, has eight en-suite bedrooms, lounge, dining area, kitchen, laundry and a small patio garden. There is also a further 10 en-suite bedrooms on the top floor of the children’s hospital.

Ryan Heal, Chief Executive of Rocking Horse Children’s Charity, was there to witness the handover of the vouchers from the Brighton-based hotels.

Martin Coatsworth, Deputy House Manager at the Ronald McDonald House, said: “We at Ronald McDonald House Brighton are overwhelmed with the vouchers kindly donated by the hotels, which will be of great use to the families that find themselves staying with us at a difficult time.

“It will give them a welcome opportunity to revisit Brighton when their child is out of hospital and they are all back home as a family.”

Andrew Mosely, General Manager at the Grand, said: “We really admire the work that the Ronald McDonald House does and we are of course delighted to be able to offer the families of unwell children a small respite through a stay at The Grand Brighton, after a traumatic period in their lives.”
