Mugger knocks out and robs victim in Brighton

A man was hit over the head with a bottle and robbed in the centre of Brighton.

The 27-year-old victim was walking in Kensington Place, in the North Laine area, towards Gloucester Road, when a man hit him with a bottle at about 10.15pm on Saturday 21 December.

The victim fell to the ground and banged his head, knocking him unconscious. When he woke his mobile phone and wallet were missing.

Members of the public found the victim and he was taken to hospital to be treated for concussion and cuts and bruises to his face, arm and back.

The attacker was described as white, about 16 or 17 years old, 5ft 4in tall and skinny. He was wearing white trainers and a light-coloured hooded top which was pulled up to obscure his face and hair.

Sergeant Jonathan Hartley said: “The attacker took his victim by surprise when he struck him with the bottle and the assault and fall could have caused very serious injuries.

“I want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack and saw or heard anything, or who has seen a teenager fitting the description of the attacker near by.

“Please contact me with any information you might have.”
