Police want to trace owners of property stolen in burglaries in Brighton and Hove
Police want to trace the owners of dozens of items stolen in burglaries across Brighton and Hove.
Sussex Police said that a corner of Brighton Police Station in John Street resembled an Aladdin’s cave filled with the recovered property.
The goods were stolen from the communal areas of flats and other properties in the area.
The paintings, signs, brass fittings, antiques, ephemera, ornaments and similar items were stolen in some 30 burglaries between March and October last year.
Several pieces have been returned to their owners – and now police want to find more of the people who have lost items which have been recovered.
Sussex Police said: “A 37-year-old man arrested as part of an ongoing investigation has been convicted of three burglaries and sentenced to nine months in prison.
“And a 50-year-old Brighton man is currently on bail after being arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.”
Detective Constable Richard Valder-Davis said: “Most of the properties targeted were large, historic apartment blocks in Brighton and Hove. The items recovered are all unique and identifiable.”
Some valuables known to have been stolen are still missing. They include a limited edition bronze statue, Horse Saddled With Time, by the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali and worth an estimated £24,000.
