Teenager beaten with crowbar during robbery in Brighton

A teenager was beaten with a crowbar and robbed in Brighton.

The 18-year-old was walking home through the tunnel under Brighton Racecourse towards Whitehawk when he was surrounded by a group of boys and girls.

The gang punched and kicked him and struck him with a crowbar before taking his orange T-Mobile Sydney mobile phone and blue Skullcandy headphones with a gold skull motif on the ear.

The victim suffered cuts and bruises to his face and a swollen mouth and eye. He had to go to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment.

Two boys aged 13 and 14 from Brighton, a 16-year-old boy from Worthing and a 14-year-old girl from Surrey were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They were questioned before being released on bail while officers carry out further inquiries.

Detective Constable Paul Candy said: “This was a nasty attack by a group of youths against a lone victim and I need anyone who witnessed it or who knows anything about it to make contact as soon as possible.

“If you saw or heard anything or know anyone that has heard something about what happened, please get in touch with us.”

The attack happened at about 11.30pm on Sunday 19 January.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
