Man treated in hospital after couple mugged in Brighton

A man needed hospital treatment for concussion and injuries to his face after he and his partner were mugged in Brighton.

The couple were attacked and robbed in Walpole Road in Kemp Town.

Sussex Police said: “The couple were approached by two men who verbally abused them and then punched the man to the ground.

“They then stole the woman’s handbag before running off towards Abbey Road.”

The attackers were described as white, about 5ft 7in to 5ft 9in tall and both aged in their early twenties. One of them had what was described as ginger spiky hair. The other had dark hair.

Both were dressed in duffel-style coats and dark jeans.

Detective Constable Leon Howe said: “This was a nasty unprovoked attack on a couple just walking home after a night out.”

The attack and robbery happened at about 2.30am last Friday (7 February).
