Two held after van crash in Brighton

A man and a woman were arrested after a white van crashed in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday 11 February).

The white Renault Trafic was spotted speeding through traffic lights in Old Steine, Brighton, by Sussex Police officers at about 1.40am today.

It was driven up the A23 London Road at speeds of up to 70mph before crashing at the Mill Road roundabout in Patcham a few minutes later.

No one was injured and no other vehicle was involved.

A 34-year-old man from Eastbourne was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs, vehicle theft, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.

An 18-year old woman was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft.

Both are currently in custody for interview and further inquiries, Sussex Police said.

The van and property found inside the van are suspected of having been stolen during a burglary at an address in Marine Drive, Eastbourne, on yesterday evening (Monday 10 February).
