Brighton artist shortlisted for London exhibition

From stuffed birds to live rats, meteorites to torn tissue, and from old nails to an antique teapot stand: all have been used by artists to make photograms for a new exhibition in London and Salisbury.

Photograms are images created by light but made without a camera, a process used by the inventor of photography William Fox-Talbot in the early 19th century. Work by Brighton artist Ann Petruckevitch has been short-listed for the exhibition, giving her a chance to collect a £500 award to be announced at a private reception in London on 22nd February.

“I’m thrilled to have been selected,” says Ann Petruckevitch, one of the photogram artists. “Using camera-less photographic processes are an important part of my artistic output, and it’s fantastic to be part of this international exhibition.”

The Photogram Open 2014 has been organised by the Urmson-Burnett Gallery and is sponsored by Silverprint, the London-based supplier of traditional photographic materials. The competition ends in central London on 25th March.
