Elite line-up of athletes set to compete in Brighton Marathon

Brighton Marathon organisers confirm that a host of top athletes are ready to compete in Brighton Marathon this April

A total of 22 IAAF qualified athletes will be looking to set fast times at the fifth Brighton Marathon on 6th April ahead of selection for Glasgow’s Commonwealth games in the summer.

The Brighton Marathon now boasts its strongest ever field as new athletes join last year’s medalists in what is set to be a record breaking event as the top five have all run faster than the current benchmark.

The fastest time in the ladies event is set at 2:28:50, but this is likely to be broken by Kenya’s Hellen Mugo, who is bringing her best time of 2:27:16 to the competition.

In the men’s competition, Dominic Kangor’s course record of 2:10:46 in last year’s close tussle with Bernard Rotich could be broken by some new competitors.

Amongst those contending for the top spot is William Chebor, 31, who has clocked 2:08:21 before as well as winning the Jakarta marathon in October last year.

Britain will be represented by Winchester’s Chris Powner on his debut marathon as well as Rebecca Robinson who will be looking to break her lifetime best of 2:37:14 from the 2010 London Marathon.

A new start time of 9.15 has been implemented as well as some new course changes, making the route faster than ever.
