Fairport Convention

In an age where popular music is so transient, once in a while you have to stop, take stock and remind yourself that there are still bands out there who have a purpose other than shifting commercial units. Watching Fairport Convention is like watching a babbling brook or the sway of the barley in the breeze. It’s comforting, like a sonic duvet. The musicianship is second to none, the storytelling at times Tolkein-esque at others humble, earthy and heart-tugging. Always one foot firmly planted in folk but the other hopping between rock, rockabilly, little jazz florets and blues. Simple yet beautiful.
