Boy & Bear

Sometimes you get a sense that a band are riding a wave towards something greater, and that sense was abundantly clear during this almost faultless gig. Having skirted around the fringes of recognition in the UK for years, the Australian band demonstrated here why they are now ready to break through. Their performance was tight, fluid and technically astute throughout, with their new material showcasing their luscious harmonies and infectious songwriting perfectly. They had the sold-out venue rocking from the very start – which is particularly impressive for a band considered mellow and folky – and proved they have a lot more to them than most of their slightly twee contemporaries.
