A reader’s poem: West Pier
Oh,how the West Pier lives so alone
Alone on the Sussex sea,
Oh, how it cries, cries out to be saved
For its memory to ever be.
See how boldly it still stands in the storm
How it fights its battles alone,
See how it battles against the cruel sea
Hear its creak and its moan.
Oh, see how this pier once noble and proud
Now cries, cries out to be saved
See how it stands but how long we don’t know
In the midst of the wild Sussex waves
But save it we must, this pier Brighton’s own
That palace of iron so strong,
Oh, let it be saved, the West Pier we love
For Brighton to sing ever long.
