Sade Ali on brighton’s oasis of fresh talent

In the past few years Brighton has really been put on the map with help from local music artists and UK Rappers. Rizzle Kicks being one of the most successful acts making it into the UK charts along with Conor Maynard have shown that our little city has more to it than just clubs and the gay scene. Ellie Ingram (recently signed) and Mrisi (shrapnel music) have also done great things and just a few years back Mrisi Makondo-Wills and two of his close friends Lewis Healey and Jamal Ali featured on ITV’s Fixers with their single ‘What Is Race?’ to promote anti-racism. Also Ceezlin aka TC has just recently released his EP and worked with the likes of SBTV and has an upcoming gig with Radio 1’s Charlie Sloth at Boutique Nightclub. And finally, I’m sure you have all heard of Frankie Cocozza (many of you will have watched his time on The X Factor a few years ago; although he didn’t win we are still proud that he is from Brighton). So this just proves the talent in Brighton is something to be celebrated and I am on a mission to find more fresh talent!
On Saturday 3 May (bank holiday weekend) there will be an Open Mic night at 24 Karat Club! Karat Club is a newbie to Brighton and is situated just by the Clock Tower, a few doors up from the Imperial Arcade. The night will start with a well known DJ (my lips are sealed as to whom). Later on in the night, local rappers, MCs and even vocalists will take to the stage to show off their talent. Going head to head or just performing their own tracks, each artist will have a fair shot of winning. A secret celebrity judge will be deciding who wins the cash prize. I will be there scouting for upcoming artists to try and discover Brighton’s hidden talent!

The best part of this night is that if you do not wish to participate or watch the performances then there is another floor of music – Afrobeats, Bashment, Hip-Hop, R’n’B, House and Reggae and Old Skool Garage!

There are no rules as to who performs, so if you think you’ve got talent then come along and take the stage!
