La Huerta (The Orchard)

Make your Spanish dream a reality in this rural lodge in the Andalucian wilderness

La Huerta (The Orchard) is set in the municipality of Lújar, 20km east of Motril, an hour’s drive from Granada and the Sierra Nevada, and one hour 15 minutes from Malaga or Almeria, and just five minutes from the Mediterranean coast at Castell de Ferro.

Comprising a recently renovated rural lodge set in an acre of Andalucian wilderness, untouched for over 50 years, including the terracotta cliff behind in which nest peregrine falcons and bee-eaters.

Just 3km to the north lies the white-washed hamlet of Lújar, in the shadow of the Sierra de Lújar (at 1,850 metres – higher than any UK mountain).

A wildlife paradise where wild boar come to feed and over 30 varieties of bird species, including hoopoe and lesser egret have made their home and wild orange, lemon, almond, fig and carob trees abound. The property is on two floors.

The ground floor comprises bedroom, kitchen shower/toilet and living room/bedroom, and behind which is a huge cold chamber built into the mountain, 12 x 6 x 4 metres.

The upper floor features a large open space (12 x 6 metres) which can be two further bedrooms or a working space, and also a large terrace with extensive views around, excellent for bird and animal-spotting.

Water rights (from a nearby spring) are included, and power is all photovoltaic; the intention has been to keep the Huerta independent of all mains services whilst maintaining a good standard of comfort.

A perfect family holiday home in which to experience the beauty of Andalucia. All legal papers and land deeds present and correct.
