It’s a dogs life

Nigel Maudsley captures your dog’s best side

Dogs are adorable to most of us. And to dog owners, there is little more beautiful, wistful or admirable than their pooch’s unique face and characters.

Brighton has a leading dog photographer, a rare breed of professional behind the camera and on the end of the lead. Portraits of his own dog Pop, a four-year-old cockapoo, paint their own picture, and capture every mood and raised eyebrow.

As they walk the South Downs Way, Devil’s Dyke, Seven Sisters and Shoreham, the inevitable pauses with strangers often lead to his Kemp Town studio and another loving proud owner with a portrait to treasure.

Nigel Maudsley, the photographer and dog owner, lectured for 25 years in Fine Art Photography at Masters Level at London Metropolitan University. He was also the MA Digital Film and Animation Course Leader and Post Graduate Coordinator.

His digital film, Chance Encounter, was screened at 12 international film festivals. He has exhibited internationally and currently has work at The Bellis Gallery in Brighton.

Nigel was Editor’s Pick in November 2013 for esteemed online photography magazine Lens Culture for his recent work based in Brighton.
