Stage: Herber Opera – Lucia Di Lammermoor

Opera can be pretty grand in even the most bijou of venues, which is what makes Heber Opera so special, and their latest production is a Donizetti classic. Love, death, jealousy, betrayal, murder, deceit and madness, Lucia di Lammermoor has them all. There are great melodies from start to finish too. Sung in English, the opera is performed across Sussex.

Gentle, dutiful Lucia loses her heart to the hot-headed and passionate Edgardo. He is her brother Enrico’s sworn enemy. When he learns of their love, Enrico determines to separate them. He deceives Lucia into believing that Edgardo no longer loves her and forces her into a marriage for money, instead. She descends into madness, the innocent victim of hatred.

Soloists Veronica Brooks, Tim Crouch, Nick Forrest, Steve Hawksley, Mike Mackenzie, Sally Wilson and John Gill are supported by the Heber Opera chorus and orchestra, under the baton of Michael Withers. The director is Roger Clow.
