Dylan Thomas’ poetic stage play comes to Theatre Royal Brighton

Dylan Thomas’ masterpiece Under Milk Wood visits Theatre Royal Brighton for a week from Monday 30 June – Saturday 5 July. The production marks the centenary of Dylan Thomas’ birth, as well as the 60th anniversary of the play’s first BBC radio broadcast. A cast of Welsh actors includes Torchwood actor Kai Owen and Steven Meo (The Fabulous Baker Boys).

Come to Llareggub, a small Welsh town by the sea. Meet blind Captain Cat, Mog Edwards and his sweetheart Miss Price, Sinbad Sailor, Dai Bread, Polly Garter, Nogood Boyo and Lord Cut Glass. Walk along Coronation Street, Cockle Row and Donkey Street, down to the little fishing harbour and back to Milk Wood. Dylan Thomas explores their lives, hopes and thoughts in the dreams of a night and the rhythm of a day.

Owen Teale won Best Actor Tony Award for his performance in A Doll’s House on Broadway and recently starred alongside Zoë Wanamaker in Passion Play by Peter Nichols. Other theatre credits include Creditors (Donmar), Ivanhov (National Theatre), Dance Of Death (West End) and Mary Stuart and Macbeth (Theatre Clwyd).

On television Owen stars as series regular Ser Alliser in the HBO TV adaptation of Game Of Thrones. Other credits include Stella (SKY 1), Ballykissangel (BBC), Torchwood (BBC) and Murphy’s Law (ITV). Film credits include The Cherry Orchard, Love Me Forever King Arthur and Conspiracy.

Terry Hands is an award-winning British stage director and producer, who founded the Liverpool Everyman Theatre in 1964. He became joint artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1978 with Trevor Nunn in 1978, and chief executive in 1986. In 1997 he became director of Clwyd Theatr Cymru.

He has won numerous awards and accolades including the 1983 Laurence Olivier and the London Critics Circle Theatre Awards for Best Director for Cyrano de Bergerac. He was nominated for three Tony Awards in 1985 and in 1993 awarded both the London Evening Standard and the London Critics Circle Theatre Awards for Best Director for Tamburlaine The Great.

Under Milk Wood is a Clwyd Theatr Cymru production presented on tour by Karl Sydow, Roger Chapman and CAPA.
