A burlesque murder mystery with a killer three course meal at Proud Cabaret

Dancing for your supper

One of the things that first hits you about Proud Cabaret is its luxurious and richly decadent decor; snakeskin seats, red walls and flamboyant light fittings providing a moody shade.

Regardless of what sort of a night you have planned, could be a date, a family affair or even a group party, there is seating to suit everyone’s needs. Private booths allow for groups and tables allow for something a little more intimate. The building itself is shrouded in history which spans over 200 years: that alone makes the place seem quite special.

As a party of four who attended The Silencing Of Miss Scarlet, we were escorted to our seats and treated to a 2-for-1 cocktail deal. The ‘kir royal’ is a definite must to get the night started. Shortly after the cocktails, the food arrived. They cater for every dietary need, with an option to pre-book so you don’t have to wait. With a three course meal and a burlesque show starting at £24 you can’t complain. Plus, the food was absolutely divine. There is a very good choice of meals on the menu, ranging from asparagus and poached duck eggs Benedict for starters to pan fried monk fish, balsamic sweet peppers, red cabbage and cardamom puree for a main. The portions are filling and good value for money.

The entertainment side of the evening consisted of a murder mystery broken up by burlesque acts, and glued together by the highly amusing compere Mister Meredith. The whole fare was sliced into digestible chunks, allowing for another cheeky cocktail between acts.

The first performance was from Holly Hoops, who showed off her hula hooping prowess with mind blowing flexibility. Sophia St Villier, who has legs as long as the Eiffel Tower, gave a glittering, ethereal performance, all topped off with a feather-filled and provocative burlesque sequence from Beau Rocks.
