Brighton Hippodrome campaigners vow to carry on despite cinema plans approval

Campaigners hoping to restore Brighton Hippodrome as a live performance venue have vowed to continue their campaign – despite developers receiving planning permission to convert the listed building into an eight-screen cinema.

Under the approved scheme, the site will also include four cafés or restaurants and a separate shop on the ground floor of a new three-storey office building.

But campaigners believe the £18 million proposal from Jersey-based Kuig Property Investments will prevent the grade II* listed building from ever being converted back into a theatre.

They will now appeal to whitehall asking for the listed building planning permission to be “called in” and reviewed by government ministers.

Latest TV’s Javier Douglas reports.
