Teachers at Hove Park school go on strike over academy plans

Teachers at Hove Park School walked out over plans to convert the school into an academy.

With concerns over the health, safety and well-being of the pupils, headteacher Derek Trimmer closed the school due to the industrial action on Wednesday (July 16)

Union representatives said the decision to strike was taken reluctantly as it was the only way to show senior staff they want the school to remain in local authority control.

But Mr Trimmer said nothing was yet in stone – adding he wanted to ensure a full consultation of everyone in the community before governors made a decision.
