Stage: The Young Actors Group
New acting school, The Young Actors Group, search for their next star amongst Brighton’s talented youth
A new acting school backed by Dakota Blue Richards, star of The Golden Compass, has been set up in Brighton and will give children and teenagers the training to work professionally on stage and screen.
The Young Actors Group will run weekly two-hour drama classes for children and teenagers aged 8-16 in Brighton and the South East. The vision of the group is to equip young actors with the confidence and character to succeed in the acting business, and beyond.
Founder Ben Murray-Watson said, “We have a unique curriculum looking at all aspects of acting, from film and stage acting to writing and improvisation. With just 16 young actors per class, they can all be guaranteed the individual attention they need.”
As a father himself, Ben is keen to give a full support and consultancy service to all the parents whose children attend. He added, “The acting world is full of complexities and we want to make sure parents feel supported at every stage of their child’s development as an actor.”
The Young Actors Group is backed by actress Dakota Blue Richards, who at the age of 11 won the role of Lyra in The Golden Compass. She said, “I’m so proud to be part of this group that will offer young people the
opportunity to learn and prepare for the world of professional acting.”
The Young Actors Group is partnered with critically acclaimed Brighton theatre, Emporium, and will be launching this summer with auditions at the theatre on 17 August. A term costs £172 and The Young Actors Group are looking to enter into partnerships with local businesses to support parents who can’t afford the full fees.
