Brighton and Hove schools celebrate A level achievements

Sixth form students across Brighton and Hove have been celebrating their A level achievements.

Hove Park School said that pupils earned more passes at A* than ever before, with exceptional performances in psychology and maths leading to “a dramatic increase in students achieving the top marks”.

For the second year running, the school said, 40 per cent achieved A* to B grades.

It added: “A similar picture is reflected in our AS results with a number of students sweeping the board with a pocket full of As.”

Sixth form head Tania Banks said: “I am very proud of the exceptional achievement of our students.

“The increase in students hitting the top marks reflects the commitment and drive of the sixth form community and the whole school.

“Our motto in sixth form is: ‘Dream it, believe it, achieve it.’

“This year many of our students have surpassed all of our expectations. They dreamt it, they worked hard, they did it.”

Blatchington Mill said that its pass rate had risen to 97 per cent.

Students and staff at the growing sixth form at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) were also celebrating their exam successes.

BACA said that 100 per cent of its students had secured their apprenticeships, university places and careers for the future, adding: “This is a fantastic achievement for all students at BACA’s sixth form.

“Each sixth form student achieved exam success with some excellent individual performances.

“Alexander Van Oers completed BTEC business studies, ICT, leadership and management courses and is planning to study international relations at the School of Oriental and Asian Studies, University of London.

“Connor Daly completed his studies in ICT, art, catering and leadership and management and is planning to study mathematical teaching at Chichester University.

“Kynan Kelly completed a BTEC in business studies and ICT and is starting a business apprenticeship with Brighton and Hove City Council.

“The sixth form’s excellent results are an indication that the wide range of courses on offer is appealing to students and their future career or higher education plans.

“Subjects range from core A level courses, English literature and maths, and BTEC business studies, entrepreneurship and enterprise, sport, catering, science, child care and creative media (games development).”

Sixth form head James Collett said: “Students and staff have worked extremely hard and deserve their successes.

“These are excellent outcomes for our students and we wish them every success for the future.

“We are also thrilled at the increasing number of students who are choosing BACA Sixth Form.

“New courses starting soon include A level psychology, history, biology and physics.

“It’s an exciting place to be and to achieve.”

The specialist sports academies in cricket, football and dance are also growing rapidly, BACA said.
