Brighton College claims best A level results in Sussex

Brighton College said that its pupils “outstanding” A level results were the best in Sussex.

The school said that 75 per cent of the grades received by students were A* or A, with 94 per cent ranging from A* to B and 99 per cent from A* to C.

A hundred pupils achieved AAA or better, with 44 managing at least two A*s and an A or better.

The school said: “Twenty seven pupils have secured places at Oxford or Cambridge – including five to study chemistry at Oxford.”

The five pupils who were offered a place at Oxford to read chemistry secured their places with 16 A* grades between them.

One of them, Noah Glasgow-Simmonds, from Hove, achieved three A*s and will take up a place at Corpus Christi College. Fellow pupil Ben Keeling gained three A*s and an A and will go to St Catherine’s College, Oxford.

Brighton College head Richard Cairns said: “These results confirm Brighton’s position as the top school in Sussex and the leading co-educational school in the UK.

“I am thrilled that 100 boys and girls secured at least AAA in their exams, 27 secured Oxbridge places, and the vast majority are heading off to leading Russell Group universities, including five off to study Chemistry at Oxford, more than any other school in England.”

The school said that its results were better than last year when it was ranked as England’s highest performing co-educational school by The Sunday Times.

It said that many of those celebrating lived in Brighton and Hove, including the young Hove actress Izzy Meikle-Small, who passed three A levels at A*. She recently played opposite Olivia Colman in the BBC drama The 7.39 and played the young Carey Mulligan in the film Never Let Me Go.

Tabitha Jackson, of Kemp Town, racked up four A*s to earn a place reading mediaeval and modern languages at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. Before taking up her university place she plans to spend a gap year at the McKinsey Leadership Academy.

The school said that other outstanding performances included Osaid Ather, from Hove, who scored five A* passes, and Emily Simmons, from Brighton, who achieved four A*s.

Hugo Gale, from Brighton, achieved three A*s and an A while Natasha D’Arcy, from Hove, earned three A*s.

Other Brighton and Hove pupils to gain at least three A grades included Lucy Beauvallet, Sophia Liu, Billy French, Max Harris, James Manzoor, Thomas Mohan, Maya Patel, Carl Rose, Sam White and Sam French.
