Brighton serial shoplifter jailed
A Brighton man has been jailed for repeatedly stealing and failing to respond to a community service order.
Mark Chapman, 28, of Stanstead Crescent, Woodingdean, stole four bottles of whisky worth £56 from the Co-op in London Road, Brighton.
He was caught stealing meat worth £30 from the same shop three weeks earlier.
He also stole clothes worth more than £600 from All Saints, in East Street, Brighton, on a separate occasion.
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court he was jailed for six weeks because, the bench said, the offence was so serious, because he was stealing repeatedly and because he had failed to respond to community order.
Two previous community service orders were revoked.
