Celebcity: Urban sculptures at Gatwick Airport & Brighton represented at Great British Bake Off
Urban sculptures at Gatwick Airport, Katie’s baby number five, & Brighton represented at Great British Bake Off
Art Therapy
Last week, London Gatwick unveiled two urban sculptures by renowned artist Zeus, to inspire passengers and celebrate the airport’s expanded route network. The sculptures depict New York’s Chrysler Building and Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, and have expanded the contemporary art collection at Gatwick Airport to around 7.5 million passengers.
At around two metres in height, the impressive sand sculptures symbolise two of the iconic landmarks that can be reached via Gatwick’s long-haul routes and will be installed for two months at the airport.
Gatwick’s Airport Passenger Panel, an independent body set up to monitor airport passenger experience, commented that UK airports need more “heart and soul”. As a result, over the past few years Gatwick has invested in brightening its spaces and building its contemporary art collection.
Last year, “The People’s Monarch” artwork was installed, a single piece the size of a double decker bus, depicting the Queen but made up of 5,500 images of the people of South East England.
Zeus, the artist, said: “I’m delighted that my two urban sculptures will be exhibited. Airports are symbols of modern metropolises, like London, so what better place to display the works where millions of passengers can see them. My aim is to give people passing through Gatwick’s terminals a place to reflect before they travel, and when they return home to London.”
Baby number five
Model Katie Price gave birth to her fifth child last week – this time a baby girl – but so far we don’t know the baby’s name and no photo has been released.
Katie did, however, post a tantalising shot of the new tot on her YouGossip site via twitter. The shot only showed the baby’s head and she then posted a really cute image of her new daughter’s tiny, tiny feet.
Katie captioned the picture with a quote: “So in love with my runner bean she is tiny perfect and my miracle.”
Congrats, Katie.
Brighton bakes
We were as excited as ever for this year’s Great British Bake Off, and the cherry on the cake (excuse the pun) was seeing Brighton being represented by the quirky actress Kate Pritchard, who’s a proud Brightonian.
She lives here with her daughter, Eloise, and runs her own upholstery company. A keen baker, Kate even baked a life sized goldfinger Bond girl for her sister’s 40th. Kate has continually impressed the notoriously hard to please judges, Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, with her creative bakes such as her orange and cardamom rye bread rolls.
With three tasks down and seven more to go, we wish her the best of luck!
