Lee Evans – Monsters

Lee Evans loves Brighton, and he loves the Brighton Centre, as the first large venue that gave him a chance 20 years ago. He also loves his wife, and it’s so evident that he absolutely adores to perform. Kicking off with a VT song and dance number, Evans bounds onto the stage, on a set reminiscent of The Palladium in the late 80s with neon square arches and starlights on the black backdrop. With the famous energy still unstoppable as he physically got behind every gag, immediately pacing from one topic to the next with barely time for breath, Evans truly is a remarkable and unstoppable performer, with his strongest material the truest about his marriage and own life. The heartfelt love song he claimed to have knocked up a few days ago for his wife (but whose more elaborate staging betrayed this small falsehood) pushed the show firmly into variety at the end, leaving a few cringing but just as many offering a standing ovation to the man whose love of the show puts him firmly in the running to still be doing this with gusto in a further 20 years time.
