Celebcity: Caitlin Moran, Moshimo’s Fishlove campaign, Christopher Biggins & Celebrity Bingo
How to be a dessert
Best-selling author, feminist, and all-round brilliant woman Caitlin Moran has been awarded many accolades in her career, but none as sweet as the one Brighton restaurant Terre a Terre recently bestowed upon her, as the East Street eatery have added a new pudding to their menu in honour of the How To Be A Woman author.
Aptly named the Caitlin Meringue, the dessert (pictured here for your delectation) is a baked Italian meringue dome filled with gooseberry ice cream sitting on Kirsch vanilla sponge and an almond and hazelnut florentine, served with elderflower gooseberry compote, mini Kirsch parfait, peppered strawberry and basil puree, and finished with caramelised hazelnuts. Phew! Caitlin, who is a regular at Terre a Terre, gave her blessing to the pudding, commenting that she is filled with all the same ingredients.
Fishing for Support
We really are in awe of Nicky Rohl and Karl Jones – the brilliant boys at Moshimo – who not only run one of the most amazing sushi restaurants on the planet (as recommended by AA Gill in his much-revered Sunday Times column) but also mastermind the stunning Fishlove campaign to raise awareness of over-fishing, fish conservation and sustainability.
Last week, Nicky and Karl unveiled the latest star to join the Fishlove campaign; Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA-winning acting legend, the amazing Julie Christie.
We hear that the Dr Zhivago star was an absolute dream to work with during her photo shoot – we’d expect nothing less.

Celebrity Bingo
Love Bingo? Like supporting charity? Then Celebrity Bingo at Concorde 2 on Saturday September 13 is for you.
Hosted by stars of Gogglebox, Brighton’s very own Stephen and Chris, the event is the brainchild of Brighton’s Juice 107.2 and Latest TV presenter, Guy Lloyd, who has been running the event for his chosen charity for the past three years.
With prizes including spa treatments, meals at some of Brighton’s top restaurants and tickets to watch the Albion, all proceeds will go to the Sussex MS treatment centre and the Brighton MS Society. Tickets from www.concorde2.co.uk
Coffee Cool
Staying on a foodie theme – three Sussex hotspots were named in Shortlist Magazine’s roll call of the Coolest Coffee Shops in the UK. Two of the venues were Brighton-based Marwoods Café on Ship Street (pictured), Taylor Street on Queen’s Road, and finally the stunning East Beach Café in Littlehampton, which was designed by Thomas Heatherwick, the genius behind both the London Olympic cauldron and the amazing new Routemaster London bus.
Halloween Horror Show
I once found myself sitting next to Christopher Biggins in Old Compton Street’s fab-u-lous Balans. He was totally charming, as we chatted about his role in the original Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Biggins was in the city this week, visiting the Sussex Beacon to tour the building and meeting both staff and patients. Biggins will continue his support for the Beacon later this year when he hosts ‘The Halloween Horror Show’ fundraising ball at the Brighton Hilton Metropole on Saturday 1 November 2014.
Biggins said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting this event, and remember it is just a jump to the left… and then a step to the right. It will be a night out to remember for a very long time.”
