A Doll’s House

You can tell that in its day this play was a revelation. That Ibsen even considered shining a light on misogynism, the plight of female self-worth and finding a receptive audience is astounding. And so you ask yourself – is that still relevant to today’s society? In part of course it is. However, the script needed a radical re-working to make it accessible. I know that sounds sacrilegious, but it really let this production down. That and the unbearable symbolism that was about as subtle as a nuclear bomb. The consequence of both of these was that I never felt any empathy/sympathy with any of the characters or believed the ending was believable at all.
