La Finta Giardiniera

La Finta Giardiniera: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was part of the Glyndebourne Tour 2014, directed by Frederic Wake Walter and conducted by Christopher Moulds.

Glyndebourne’s productions are always spectacular with attention to detail that makes their every opera a memorable experience. La Finta Giardiniera is no exception. The set is a reproduction of an 18th century garden, the voices are magnificent, and the period costumes actually enhance our understanding of each character. The plot is typical Mozart, with confused identities and frustrated lovers misunderstanding one another. It was composed when Mozart was 19 and reflects his preoccupation with love and how desperately we all seek it. The mad scene is truly marvellous, with the walls of the set falling at the feet of the singers as they psychologically fall apart. And, as in every Mozart opera, it all comes together at the finale.
