Susan Calman: Lady Like

A marathon set from the exuberant Ms Calman which covered such diverse topics as pony trekking in Iceland (with Phil Tufnell), a disastrous trip to the Paris sewers (with her wife), and her nervous breakdown. Much of the humour sprang from her sexuality, which, this being Brighton, the audience lapped up. Given the length of the show there was an occasional dip in energy, when the laughter became polite rather than enthusiastic. Her exhortation, at the end, to learn to love yourself and to celebrate being you, followed by her performing a brief except from Swan Lake, was hilarious and strangely moving. A good time was had by all, and that clearly included Ms Calman herself.
