Sikes & Nancy

Sikes & Nancy is Dickens’ add-on to Oliver Twist. All the bits you knew happened in the first book but didn’t really want to accept. It is almost the final 24 hours in the lives of Bill and Nancy, with agent provocateur Fagan manipulating proceedings in the dark shadows of life, culminating in the grisly deaths of the two protagonists. James Swanton’s one man adaptation is a tour de force; a masterclass in character portrayal and performance. I was captivated; hanging on his every word and movement. A quite brilliant piece of theatre and an interesting Q&A which followed. Bravo.
