The Jest is a comedy quintet consisting of talented character actors whose various skills are showcased in a sketch show format. The sketches are enhanced with slick audio and video contributions, giving a modern feel. The only problem is the material can be very hit-and-miss with some skits brilliantly well realised and others barely raising a smile, achieving about a 50% hit rate. However, a real strength is their interactions with the audience, which expertly played on our English aversion to awkwardness. Imagine being called onto stage to be subjected to a fat man doing a striptease. I’d have a stroke.
