Comedy: Last chance to see…

The final week of the Brighton Fringe still has plenty of comedy treats in store.

Some Fringe festivals have the same shows on at the same time every day, meaning that you can choose what to see and when to see it. This is great for visitors, who can dash in to town for a long weekend and see all of the shows they want in one fell swoop. But for residents it can lead to a quieter end to the Fringe period, with all of your favourite shows already attended in that first week of keeness. Which is why the way the Brighton Fringe runs itself is a lot more sensible for us.

As well as great shows you may have missed on their first few outings this month, like Aidan Goatley’s ‘10 Films With My Dad’ (Dukebox Theatre, Wed 27 May, 8pm, £8/6), Jane Postlethwaite’s ‘Made In Cumbria’ (Laughing Horse@The Quadrant, Thurs 28 May, 7pm, free; Sun 31 May, 5.45pm, free), and Roz Ryan & Graeme Collard’s ‘Pigs In Gin’ (Laughing Horse@The Hobgoblin, Sat 30 May, 2.15pm, free), there are new ones just arriving to town.

Yup, new shows in the final week. The Cuddle Party arrives on Friday for a three-day run over at The Warren, offering up a variety of characters who could benefit from a cuddle – all from the brains of comedy veterans Nicholas Waters and William Hartley (him out of sketch group Clever Peter and the chocolate advert).
Over at The Old Market Sunday evening is packed with a double-header of a show which includes some of the cleverest comedy around –and for once it’s not all about satire! Festival Of The Spoken Nerd and Go 8-Bit! share the night and offer up two geek shows for the price of one, which is only a tenner if you’re asking.
Finally, but by no means the last great show that could be highlighted here, Max & Ivan roll up to town for shows on Saturday and Sunday at The Warren, bringing their own award-winning sketch-comedy tale of a small sleepy English town to our buzzing cosmopolitan city.

The Brighton Fringe still has plenty left to give in it’s final week, blossoming in turn like a well-planned garden. It’s time to smell the roses.
