Blaze rips through bus in Brighton city centre

Parts of Brighton city centre were closed this morning after a bus caught fire.

Emergency crews were called to Old Steine at just before 7am this morning.

No one is believed to have been on the bus at the time of the fire.

But people passing by reportedly alerted the driver of the vehicle to a strong smell of burning.

They area was quickly evacuated and fire crews dealt with the blaze.

The vehicle was left badly charred by the flames – with the interior of the bus black from the smoke.

Martin Harris of Brighton and Hove Bus Company, said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

But police said it was not being treated as suspicious.
