Buses: Get on board

Brighton & Hove Buses the only way to travel
This week: Rottingdean

Towards the end of the 19th century it offered seclusion
and inspiration for many artists, writers and public figures, factors which influence both residents and visitors to this day.

The main attractions in the town are Kipling’s Garden, Rottingdean Windmill, St. Margaret’s Church with its beautiful stained glass windows and some traditional old inns which were once frequented by smugglers in the area.St_Margaret's_Church,_Rottingdean_08
The beautiful village of Rottingdean, located just outside Brighton, can be reached on Brighton & Hove Buses Route 2, Coaster 12s and Route 27. The village, although ancient, became popular with artists, writers and public figures in the 19th century and their legacy still exists with a continuing artsy feel to the village. One of the main attractions in Rottingdean is the Kiplings Gardens, where Rudyard Kipling lived from 1897 to 1902. Admission is free and the gardens include the Rose Garden, Herb Garden and Wild Garden – the Wild Gardens can be used for picnics.
The main shopping street is full of interesting boutiques and specialist shops. You could also while away the afternoon in the local tea rooms and pubs.
The village museum is housed in the Grange, which is also the library and an art gallery, or you can always just stroll around this beautiful village which includes many historic buildings, a village pond and green. The Rottingdean Windmill is located in the Beacon Hill nature reserve. The nature reserve is a great place to listen to the skylarks, and view the South Downs and sea.
