London Gay Symphony Orchestra and Actually Gay Men’s Chorus

The first half of the programme saw the LGSO perform Saint-Saëns’ ‘Carnival of the Animals’, with charismatic poetry from host Miss Jason (Jason Sutton), although it did disrupt the momentum a little. Poulenc’s ‘Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra’ was a highlight when pianists Coady Green and Christopher Wayne Smith duelled with lyrical aplomb. The second half was more in the cabaret vein, with the AGMC performing some stirring, robust Gilbert & Sullivan, and also songs such as an emotional ‘I Won’t Send Roses’ performed by David Raven. The sense of adventure and mischief was refreshing, and the combination of orchestral and popular chorus songs ensured that there was something for everyone to enjoy.
