Celebcity: Fatboy Slim
Campaign to save the Hippodrome
Fatboy Slim has joined a campaign to save The Brighton Hippodrome. In its formative years the grade II listed building hosted the likes of Sammy Davies Jnr, Harry Houdini, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Spending its twilight years as a Bingo Hall, the theatre closed its doors for good in 2007. The Middle Street venue is now in desperate need of funding in order to return to its glory days.
Following a guided hard hat tour, Brighton DJ Norman Cook was galvanised into publicising the Hippodrome’s plight: “My eyes have been opened very widely by what I saw inside. It’s about three times bigger than I remember, ten times more beautiful and in about 50 times better repair than I was expecting. We want it to be in the right hands, for the right use – and to become part of Brighton again.”
