Charmian Hughes: When Comedy Was Alternative (The Laughs And Loves Of A She-Comic)
Charmian Hughes is immediately warm and likeable, with her years as a comic serving her well in both her stagecraft and the content of her show. Casually dropping names from the birth of alternative comedy, Hughes shares her own comedy origin story from clown to stand-up, telling of her first ever gig coincidentally at the notorious Tunnel Club, way back when Eddie Izzard and the like were starting out and crossing new comedy boundaries. A real interest to any comedy fan, Hughes jollily takes us gently on what must have been quite a tempestuous journey. Not always raucous but always engaging and enjoyable, this was a delightful hour.
