Brighton’s Arty: Quartet of colour at Dynamite Gallery

If you haven’t discovered Dynamite Gallery on Trafalgar Street, there’s no better time. ‘Chroma’ brings together four contemporary Brighton painters – Aimee Brigginshaw, May Everett, Kathryn Lang and Sarah Shaw – in a show that explores the fine line between abstraction and figuration, along with the emotional properties of colour and mark-making.May-Everett-Rain
The title derives from Derek Jarman’s ‘Chroma – a book of colour’. So expect original oils and fine art prints that evoke the places where the artists live – from the bright lights and dark spaces of Brighton’s sea roads to the barren emptiness of Dungeness beach where Jarman lived and wrote the words that inspired this exhibition: ‘Constant, colourful, chromatic; Party coloured and prismatic; Kaleidoscopic, variegated; Tattooed, dyed, illuminated; Daub and scumble, dip and dye; High keyed colour, colour lie.’ From 18 to 30 June.
