Peter Kyle on Jeremy Corbyn needing to stand down

The fallout from Brexit rolls on – with battles in Westminster dominating the political spectrum.

Nominations for the Conservative party leader closed at lunchtime.

In a surprise, frontrunner Boris Johnson withdrew from the race – leaving Michael Gove and Theresa May leading the pack to become the new Prime Minister.

On the Labour side, Angela Eagle announced she would run against Jeremy Corbyn, claiming he could not continue without the support of MPs.

For the only Labour MP in our area, the decision is clear…

Mr Kyle is misleading in his vague criticisms of Mr Corbyn’s ‘qualities’. Factual and significant is that Mr Kyle disagrees strongly with the leader of his party and the majority of its members, including a large majority of members in Brighton and Hove, who strongly oppose this government’s austerity measures.

With other right of centre/Blairite MPs, Mr Kyle has made a radical judgement in aligning himself with the Conservatives and their severe austerity measures. His voting record for deep and punitive cuts to services is a matter of fact, e.g.

The UK is the fifth richest country in the world, but its wealth is distributed very unevenly and this imbalance is worsening. Mr Kyle would do well to work with others to help reverse this trend for the benefit of social cohesion in our country, rather than trying to sabotage their efforts.

Mr Kyle’s disloyalty to his colleagues in the Labour Party is a low point in his political career.
