British Airways i360: All change on the seafront: Madeira Terraces regeneration, open air pool & more

With the futuristic ‘space ship’ pod regularly flying up to 138 metres, we are at the start of a real change happening on the seafront.
Once British Airways i360 is complete this summer, council redevelopment will continue near our site with the development of two new public piazzas planned over the winter, and the continuation of the Shelter Hall works.CREDIT-Andy-Gardner
Further along to the east, I was pleased to see the £4 million funding bid made to kick start the regeneration of the Madeira Terraces. I regularly run past this beautiful Grade 2 structure that is sadly fenced off from public use. I hope that an eventual use is found to drive footfall there, such as a destination new arts centre to rival Turner Contemporary in Margate.

Other interesting plans for the eastern seafront include an open air 50-metre pool at the derelict Peter Pan’s Playground, £1.85m improvements to the Volk’s Railway and a proposed zip-wire attraction at the site of the Brighton Wheel.
Meanwhile it’s great to hear that the new owners of the ‘Brighton Pier’ will be returning Palace to the name whilst retaining the Brighton brand to rename it officially ‘Brighton Palace Pier’ (some of us never stopped calling it the Palace Pier!).
