Summer holidays

Don’t even think about the weather – the summer holidays are fast approaching and it’s got nothing to do with the sunshine. School is almost out, and whether you’re an Alice Cooper dude or Daphne & Celeste poppettes, it’s time to start making plans.
Alright, so not everyone is a student, teacher or parent, but that doesn’t mean the end of term doesn’t affect the rest of us too. Package holiday prices skyrocket, offices start playing that tessellation game of fitting everyone’s time off around what can still keep business ticking over, and every cinema screening before ‘bedtime’ is packed with jubilant kids happy to see blockbusters instead of maths homework.
Speaking as an auntie, this is the time when I am most likely to get visits and off-schedule outings thrown my way – which I hasten to add that I love. Meeting the family off the train at the station, the oldest makes a bee-line for the carousel and the youngest for the penny arcades, it’s like I’ve flashed back into one of British Rail’s retro posters. It’s a treat to be a snapshot of this family life. It certainly makes my sun shine.
