Brighton’s Arty
The art of conversation
We met ceramicist extraordinaire Kay Aplin a few years ago at her astonishing home ‘The Ceramic House’ – which is, quite literally, a living showcase of her work. (Be sure to pop in at next year’s AOH festival. It’s on the Fiveways trail.) So we’re looking forward to seeing – and hearing – the results of her curatorial collaboration with sound artist Joe Young in Phoenix’s south gallery as part of the Brighton Digital Festival.
‘Landscape: Islands’ is the result of a quartet of international artists who have been working in Phoenix studios as part of an ambitious residency project, masterminded by Kay and Joe. The fantastic four are Anne Lykke (Denmark, ceramics); Mike Blow (UK, sound); Ingibjörg Guòmundsdóttir (Iceland, ceramics) and Iris Garrelfs (UK and Germany, sound), and the exhibition reflects a unique conversation between sound and ceramics. Until 25 September.
