A gold BA i360 celebrates Team GB’s Olympic triumphs & lovely new restaurants open
To celebrate Team GB’s greatest ever Olympic performance, we illuminated British Airways i360 gold on the night that our sponsor British Airways flew Team GB home. From take-off until sunrise the world’s tallest moving observation tower glowed gold to celebrate the nation’s success whist the BA flight ‘BA2016’ from Rio carried a haul of 92 medals on board.
Meanwhile we are continuing to have an incredible first summer and expect to welcome our 100,000th visitor through the door through the bank holiday weekend. A tip for locals wanting to avoid the crowds is to visit first thing in the morning when we open at 10am or else after 6pm.
We expect to welcome our 100,000th visitor
On Saturday 20th, we had our first major storm since we opened. The BA i360 operated all day and the flights were so smooth that you couldn’t even feel the wind. We moved our security check and boarding inside our beach building so that our guests could stay out of the wind and rain, and lowered our parasols and flags.
This week has also seen the opening of our restaurants: the beach side Belle Vue brasserie opened on Friday 19th and West Pier Tea Room (housed in one of the beautiful reproduction West Pier toll booths) on Kings Road. Both restaurants have lovely outdoor terraces. Afternoon teas are proving a big hit – the cakes are divine!
