Have Your Say

Don’t miss the boat on your vote!

Brighton & Hove City Council is reminding residents that they have just a few weeks left to complete their household enquiry form, which they should have received.

Residents are being asked to let the council know whether the information printed on the form is correct or needs updating. There are a number of ways to respond, including online, by text or over the phone.

Canvassers will be visiting residents who haven’t responded between 7 October and 7 November to urge them to return their forms so that they do not lose their right to vote. To avoid that call, please respond as soon as possible!

The aim is to ensure that the electoral register is up to date and to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so.
The council’s Head of Life Events, Paul Holloway, said: “You cannot vote if you are not registered. To make sure you can have your say in any future elections, simply check the form when it arrives and return it to us as quickly as possible.

“It should only take you a minute or two, and it could improve your credit rating. If you’re not currently registered, please reply and we’ll send you further information explaining how to do this.

“Or you can simply go online to apply to register at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

“It’s particularly important for anyone who has moved address recently to check whether they are registered. Research indicates that nationally recent home movers are far less likely to be registered than those that have lived at the same address for a long time.

“According to the Electoral Commission, 87% of homeowners are registered, while only 56% of private renters are.”
