The Big Yin is coming to town, and such is his popularity an extra date (the Monday) was announced in September as an addition to his mini-residency.

Hailed by many as one of the originators of the contemporary storytelling style of comedy, Billy Connolly was voted the best comedian of all time by Channel 4’s viewers.

Having been hawking his craft touring for the last half a century, as well as taking time out to star in films, pick up awards, and chinwag with the royals as he picked up a CBE, Connolly’s live humour is still strong and his comedic voice true to the rebellious nature he started with. He may no longer be hanging about working in Glasgow’s shipyards, but his eccentric flights of fancy and determination not to follow the crowd’s opinions simply find new outlets in his current life, with family, politics and whimsy all still strong.

For a star that’s a more recent arrival to the spotlight, check out Nish Kumar – currently at the Helm of BBC Radio 4’s Newsjack. Smart, funny, and intelligent, Kumar has had a lot of attention in the last 12 months, and for all the right reasons. Enjoy.

Billy Connolly: High Horse Tour, Monday 21 – Wednesday 23 November, Brighton Centre, 8pm, from £39.05; Nish Kumar: Actions Speak Louder Than Words Unless You Shout The Words Real Loud, Komedia, Wednesday 16 November, 8pm, £14/12
